'Inside Out'Àº µÎ °¡Áö ÀÛ¾÷À¸·Î ÀÌ·ç¾îÁ® ÀÖ´Ù. Çϳª´Â ¡®´ç½ÅÀÌ, ´ç½ÅÀ» º¼ ¼ö ÀÖ´Â ÇÑ °¡Áö ¹æ¹ý¡¯ ½Ã¸®ÁîÀÌ°í, ¶Ç Çϳª´Â ¡®Not for Nothing¡¯ ½Ã¸®ÁîÀÌ´Ù.

¡®´ç½ÅÀÌ, ´ç½ÅÀ» º¼ ¼ö ÀÖ´Â ÇÑ °¡Áö ¹æ¹ý¡¯Àº Æ÷Æ®·¹ÀÌÆ® ÀÛ¾÷ÀÌ´Ù. ¿©´À Æ÷Æ®·¹ÀÌÆ® ÀÛ¾÷µéÀÌ ÃÔ¿µÀÚ°¡ Àι°À» Ž±¸ÇÏ´Â °úÁ¤ÀÎ °Í°ú ´Þ¸®, ³ªÀÇ ÀÛ¾÷Àº ÇÇ»çü°¡ µÇ´Â Àι°ÀÌ ÀÚ±â ÀÚ½ÅÀ» Ž±¸ÇÏ´Â ÀÛ¾÷ÀÓÀ» ¸ÕÀú ¸»ÇÏ°í ½Í´Ù. ÀÌ·± °æ¿ìÀÇ °Å¿ïÀº ³»¸éÀ» ´ã¾Æ³»´Â ±×¸©ÀÌ µÈ´Ù. °Å¿ï°ú ¸¶ÁÖ¼¹À» ¶§, °Å¿ïÀ» º¸´Â ³ª¿Í °Å¿ï ¼ÓÀÇ ³ª »çÀÌ¿¡ °ø°£ÀÌ »ý°Ü³­¬´Ù. ±×¸®°í ±× °ø°£ ¼Ó¿¡ ÀÚ½ÅÀÇ ³»¸éÀÌ ´ã±ä´Ù. ¿ì¸®´Â ¹Ù·Î ¿ì¸®ÀÇ ¸ð½ÀÀ» º¼ ¼ö ÀÖ´Â °ÍÀÌ´Ù.

Àι°À» ´Ù·é ¾ÕÀÇ ÀÛ¾÷°ú ´Þ¸® ¡®Not for Nothing¡¯ ½Ã¸®Áî´Â °³ÀÎÀÇ ¼ÒÁßÇÑ ¹°°ÇµéÀ» ¼ÒÀç·Î ¾²°í ÀÖ´Ù. ÇÏÁö¸¸ ±× ¹°°ÇÀ» ÅëÇØ º¸ÀÌ´Â °ÍÀº ¸¶Âù°¡Áö·Î ¿ì¸® ÀÚ½ÅÀÌ´Ù. ŸÀÎÀÌ º¸±â¿£ º¸À߰;ø°í º°°Í ¾Æ´Ñ ¹°°Çµéó·³ º¸ÀÌÁö¸¸ ±× ¹°°ÇÀÇ ÁÖÀο¡°Õ ³Ê¹«³ª Ưº°ÇÑ °¡Ä¡¸¦ °¡Áö´Â °æ¿ì°¡ ÀÖ´Ù. ¹°°Ç¿¡ ´ã°ÜÀÖ´Â ±â¾ïÀ̳ª À̾߱â, ȤÀº Àǹ̰¡ ±×°ÍµéÀ» Ưº°ÇÏ°Ô ¸¸µé¾î ÁØ´Ù. ±×°ÍÀº ¹Ù·Î ÀÌ ÀÛ¾÷ÀÇ Á¦¸ñ ±×´ë·Î ¸ðµÎ ¼ÒÁßÇÒ ¸¸ÇÑ ÀÌÀ¯°¡ ÀÖ´Â ¹°°ÇµéÀÎ °ÍÀÌ´Ù. ÀÌ·¯ÇÑ °³ÀÎÀûÀÎ º¸¹°À» ¸¶Ä¡ ¿¹¼úÀÛǰó·³ ȤÀº Áß¿äÇÑ À¯¹°Ã³·³ º¸ÀÌ°Ô ¸¸µé¾ú´Ù. ¿ø·¡ ¹°°ÇÀÇ °¡Ä¡¶õ °ÍÀº °Å¸®¿¡ ÀÇÇؼ­µµ »ý¼ºµÈ´Ù. ¾ÆÅ©¸± ÄÉÀ̽º¿Í »çÁø¸Åü¶õ °á°ú¿¡ ÀÇÇØ ¸¸µé¾îÁö´Â ¹°°Ç°ú °¨»óÀÚÀÇ °Å¸®´Â ±× ¹°°Ç¿¡ ´ã°ÜÀÖ´Â ½ºÅ丮¸¦ ¸ð¸§¿¡µµ Á» ´õ Ưº°ÇÏ°í °¡Ä¡ ÀÖ´Â °ÍÀ¸·Î ´À²¸Áö°Ô ÇÑ´Ù. »ç½Ç ±×·± ¿ÜÀûÀÎ Àǵµ°¡ ¾Æ´Ï´õ¶óµµ ¿ì¸®ÀÇ Ãß¾ï°ú ±â¾ïÀº ¾î´À ¿¹¼úÀÛÇ°¿¡ ºñÇصµ ÈξÀ ´õ Å« °¡Ä¡¸¦ °¡Áø´Ù.

À̹ø ³ªÀÇ Àü½Ã´Â ¡®³» ¹æ¡¯°úµµ °°´Ù. ÇÞ»ìÀÌ ³Ê¹« ÁÁÀº ¾î´À ¿ÀÈÄ, ¾Æ¹«µµ ¾ø´Â Áý¾È¿¡¼­¬ Ȧ·Î ¹æ¾È¿¡ ¾É¾Æ ±× Á¶¿ëÇÔ¿¡ ¿Â ¸öÀÌ Ç« ²¨Áø´Ù. ±×¸®°ï °¡¸¸È÷ °Å¿ïÀ» º¸±âµµ ÇÏ°í º¸¹° »óÀÚ¸¦ ²¨³»¾î ¿À·¡µÈ Ãß¾ïÀ» ´õµë±âµµ ÇÑ´Ù. ±×·± ³» Àڽſ¡ ´ëÇÑ »ç¼ÒÇÏÁö¸¸ Å« ¾ÖÁ¤ÀÌ ÀÌ ÀÛ¾÷µéÀÇ ½ÃÀÛÀ̾ú´Ù. Àü½Ã Á¦¸ñ Inside Out Àº °ÑÀ» ÅëÇØ ¾ÈÀ» º»´Ù´Â Àǹ̷ΠÁö¾ú´Ù. ±×°ÍÀÌ ³ªÀÇ ¾ó±¼ÀÌµç °³ÀÎÀû º¸¹°À̵ç, »ç½ÇÀº ³ªÀÇ ³»¸éÀÌ µÚÁýÇô ÀÖ´Â »óÅ¿´´ø °ÍÀÌ´Ù. ¸ðµÎµé ÀÌ °ø°£¿¡ Àü½ÃµÇ¾î ÀÖ´Â ÀÚ½ÅÀ̶õ ÀÛÇ°À» °¨»óÇÏ°í °¡±æ ±â´ëÇغ»´Ù.



Artst¡¯s Statement

This exhibition has two stories: one is ¡®One Way That You Can Look Into Yourself¡¯ and the other is ¡®Not for Nothing¡¯.

¡®One Way That You Can Look Into Yourself¡¯ is a project about portraits and I would like to point out that my works are about ¡®the figures¡¯ observing themselves, unlike other ordinary portraits of the photographer observing the figures. The models in the portraits are not looking at the camera but at their reflection. In order to take photos of the models looking into themselves without any distractions, I built a closed in room and installed a 2 way mirror. Before the subjects entered the mirror room, I only and simply asked the models to look into and at themselves in the mirror just a little more seriously than usual. Models could concentrate more easily on themselves with the isolated space. Right after taking the photo, they wrote about what they felt while they watched themselves. A mirror seems more than just an object that simply shows images by reflecting light, and ¡®seeing the image of oneself in the mirror¡¯ and ¡®looking at the inner self through the mirror¡¯ is completely different. It is like the tale of Narcissi who fell in love with his own reflection or the story of Medusa who killed herself by a mirror shield. A mirror can represent one¡¯s inner self. When one faces it, a space is created between the person himself and the reflection in the mirror, and in the space, the inner self of the person is portrayed. This is when it is possible to look into ourselves

Unlike the former series with figures, ¡®Not for Nothing¡¯ is about someone¡¯s private object. It is just an object, but what we see through the object is ourselves. Although the objects may seem useless and insignificant to others, they may be very precious to the person who owns them. Their historical stories, memories or meanings make them special. There are reasons each object is special and as the title implies it is ¡®not for nothing¡¯. I made these private and precious objects look like art works or heritages because the value of the object may sometimes be created by ¡°distance¡±. Creating a ¡°distance¡± by using acryl cases and photographs, make the viewers think that the object is special and valuable even though they don¡¯t know its background or history. Even without such intention, it is true that our memories are much more valuable than any art work.

For me, this exhibition is like ¡®my room¡¯. One afternoon with beautiful sunshine, I felt comfortable sitting in the room alone with silence. I looked into the mirror and opened my treasure box to trace my old memories. It was some kind of trivial but deep affection for myself and it was the start of these two series. The exhibition title ¡®Inside Out¡¯ means looking inside through the outside because everything – either my face or private treasure – was something turned over from my inner side, revealing myself. I hope the viewers will be able to meet and see themselves from my works.
